            Several hundred student athletes from Sacred Heart, Ville Platte High and Pine Prairie attended the annual athlete physicals sponsored by Heathworks Rehab on Thursday. This is the 14th year, Healthworks Rehab has been sponsoring this free event. Professionals in various medical fields donated their time and talent to review each athlete to make sure they are physically ready to compete during the upcoming school year. There were physical therapists, medical doctors, nurses, dentists and many others doing the exams. KVPI Sports Announcer Tracy Jagneaux was there broadcasting live speaking with Andy Poche and David Vidrine with Healthworks Rehab along with such coaches as Coach Yves Prince from Pine Prairie, Coach Josh Harper from Sacred Heart and Coach Jorie Randall of Ville Platte High.


  • KVPI Sports is following our two Ville Platte Dixie Youth teams competing in the Dixie Youth regional tournaments being played in Ruston, Louisiana. Both our Dixie Minors, the Super Tens, and the Dixie Majors, the 12 year old all stars, are participating in these tournaments. Both team first day games were cancelled Friday because of the heavy rains that fell in Ruston so tournament officials doubled up games on Saturday.

       Here is a recap: The Ville Platte Super Ten all stars played game one at noon Saturday and beat Blanchard 11-0. Their second game was Saturday night at 9:00pm and they beat Gonzales 10-0.Sunday night, the Ville Platte Super Tens beat Patterson 18-4. They will play tonight (Monday) at 7;30 against Gonzales over KVPI 1050 AM

       In the Dixie Majors tournament, our Ville Platte 12 year old allstars beat Springhill 9-1 in the first game at noon Saturday. In the game two, the 12 year olds beat Rayville 15-2. Last night, the Ville Platte 12’s lost to Sabine 7-4. The Dixie Majors 12 year olds will play at 5:30 today (Monday) on KVPI FM

        We have two sports announcers broadcasting live in Ruston. KVPI Sports Announcer Micah Chatman is covering the 12 year olds while Sports Announcer Tracy Jagneaux is covering the Ville Platte Super Tens.

       Also, KVPI Sports is making arrangements to cover the Ville Platte 10 and under Select girls softball team coached by Todd Ardoin that will be competing at the USSSA World Series in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Their pool play games begin Wednesday.  KVPI Sports Announcer James Shiver will be back in Gulf Shores to cover our girls. Listen to special shououts from the team players all week beginning on Wednesday over KVPI. A second Ville Platte 10 year old team won the world series title with Coach Nick LeBas just last week.


  •     Congratulations to the Ville Platte 10U all star girls who this afternoon defeated Trussville 6-3 and who have won the USSSA World Series CHAMPS. Ville Platte played the team three times, late last night and lost 9-5, came back and played them at noon and beat them a second time for the championship title. KVPI Sports was there almost since the beginning. We covered 9 games for the team live from Gulf Shores, Alabama with Sports Announcer James Shiver. We are proud to have been able to bring most of the games to family and friends in the Ville Platte area.

     

         KVPI Sports is preparing to cover our Ville Platte 12 year old Dixie Majors and Super Ten year old Dixie Minors all star teams this weekend with tournaments in Ruston. The Ville Platte 12 year olds will play in a Dixie Youth regional tournament with first game Friday night at 7:30pm over KVPI FM with Sports Announcer Micah Chatman.        Our Ville Platte all-star teams represented Ville Platte well in two Dixie Youth State tournaments in North Louisiana over the weekend.

       The Ville Platte 8 year old Pitching Machine all stars competed in the State Pitching tournament in Rayville, Louisiana. The team claimed the championship title in the consolation bracket Sunday. KVPI Sports was there for most of the games with Sports Announcer Micah Chatman. Here is a re-cap: Ville Platte beat West Monroe 10-4 at noon Sunday to claim the championship title in the consolation bracket. Earlier Sunday, the all stars beat Alexandria 14-6. On Saturday, Ville Platte defeated Oakdale 19-9 in game one followed by beating Union parish 13-6 in the later game. In the Friday pool play games: Ville Platte beat Patterson 18-1, defeated Rapides 14-5 in game two and lost to West Monroe 8-1 in the final pool play game Friday.

       The Ville Platte 6 year old T-Ball all-stars finished in 5th place in the state T-Ball tournament in Shreveport over the weekend. Their final game Sunday, our all-stars lost to Oakdale 19-11. On Saturday’s bracket games:, the early game had Shreveport defeat Ville Platte 12-6 and in the later game Ville Platte beat Bossier 15-7. On Friday’s pool games: Ville Platte defeated Jena 23-7 and Alexandria  beat Ville Platte 12-4.

      Congratulations to both all star teams and coaches for representing us well in the state tournaments. We’re proud of your accomplishments.


  • Sports Update

     

    The Ville Platte 8 year old Pitching Machine All Stars played three pool play games today in the Dixie Youth Pitching Machine State Tournament and KVPI covered all three games for listeners and fans back home. Here is the re-cap:


    Game 1- Ville Platte over Patterson 18-1; Game 2: Ville Platte over Rapides 14-5; and West Monroe beat Ville Platte in the night cap 8-1. Bracket play begins tomorrow morning and we will be there covering it. As soon as we get start times, we will pass it on to you.

     

    The Ville Platte T-Ball all stars are playing in the state T-Ball State Tournament going this weekend in Shreveport. Here is a re-cap of today's action: Game One-Ville Platte defeated Jena 23-7 and in Game two- Alexandria defeated Ville Platte12-4. The action continues in bracket play on Saturday. Good luck to our all stars.

     

    Gulf Shores, Alabama will be the scene of the USSSA Girls Softball World Series and Ville Platte will have three girls teams represented there. Starting next week, our Ville Platte 8U and 10U Rec teams will be competing in their respective brackets. KVPI Sports will be covering the Ville Platte 10U girls games. Starting July 19, the Ville Platte 10U Select All Star girls will be competing in the world series and KVPI is making arrangements to carry those games. Doing play by play for the world series will be Sports Announcer James Shiver for family and friends back home in Ville Platte. Good luck to all of our all star girls teams.


  • Here's an update on local baseball action involving our Dixie Youth All Stars: The Ville Platte 8 year old Pitching Machine all stars ended up in a tie tonight in the first game of pool play action in the state tournament. Final score: Ville Platte 12 Benton 12. Ville Platte was down 12-5 in the sixth inning when Ville Platte all stars came roaring back to score 7 runs to tie it up. Pool play games can end in a tie. KVPI Sports will begin carrying the pool play games at 10:15am and 2:15pm Friday over KVPI AM with Sports Announcer Micah Chatman. Also the Ville Platte T-Ball all stars playing in Shreveport this weekend for the state tournament beat Shreveport Continental 16-1 in 3 innings. Good luck to our all stars!!


  •      The Ville Platte 8 year old Pitching Machine All Stars will compete in the state Dixie Youth State tournament Thursday through Sunday in Rayville, Louisiana. KVPI Sports is making arrangements to carry these games. Their pool play games begin Thursday night at 6:15pm. We will begin coverage on Friday with two pool play games at 10:15am and again at 2:15pm both games will be on KVPI AM. Bracket play games begin Saturday through Sunday and we will be there covering the games with Sports Announcer Micah Chatman.

          Also the Ville Platte T-Ball all stars will compete and play in the state T-Ball tournament this weekend in Shreveport.

          In girl’s softball action, the Ville Platte 8 year old all stars and the 10 year old Rec all star teams will compete in the USSSA World Series in Alabama. Pool play games begin Monday.

  •    The Ville Platte 12 Year old Dixie Major All Stars defeated Pine Prairie all stars Sunday night 13-0 in four innings. The undefeated Ville Platte team advances to play in the championship game today against Mamou All Stars today (Monday) at 5:30pm to be broadcast live over KVPI FM 92.5 with Sports announcer Micah Chatman. Earlier in the weekend Ville Platte beat Westlake 16-0, beat Vernon 11-1 and Mamou 6-0. All of the games are being played at the Ville Platte Recreational Complex.

       Also the Ville Platte Super 10’s Dixie Minors are undefeated in a district tournament being played in Dequincy. Ville Platte will play in the championship game Monday night at 6:00pm against Oakdale. In earlier games, the all stars: beat Vernon 7-1, beat Oakdale 16-7 and defeated South Beauregard 5-1.

  • The Ville Platte Pitching Machine 8 year old All Stars came out Third Place in the just completed Dixie Youth District tournament in Leesville. In games played yesterday, Deridder 3 Ville Platte O in game one and in game two, Oakdale 14 Ville Platte 2. Our Ville Platte All Stars will advance to play in the state Pitching Machine tournament July 6-9 in Rayville. We want to wish all the best to our all stars.

           We have two Ville Platte Dixie Youth all star teams in important tournaments this weekend.

           The Ville Platte 12 year old Dixie Major team will host a District tournament at home at the Ville Platte Recreational Complex Thursday through Sunday. First game is Thursday at 7:30 against Westlake. KVPI Sports will be covering all of the 12 year old all star games in this tournament with Sports Announcer Micah Chatman. The team’s manager is Josh Deshotel and coaches are Chris Courville, John Pitre and Eric Fontenot. The team includes: Lawson May, Blake Hebert, Ayden Fontenot, Hayden Droddy, Bryce Deville, Colton Manuel, Evan Deshotels, Gabe Courville, Landon LeBlanc, Nick Fontenot, Ike Perry and Wade Pitre.

        Also The Ville Platte Super Tens all stars will be competing in a District tournament in DeQuincy this weekend beginning Thursday. The coaches are Jason Deshotel, Stokie Fontenot and Jared Fontenot. The team includes Tristan Mayeaux, Bryce Shexnyder, Zachery Fontenot, Hayden Deshotel, Jackson Bruney, Andrew Fay, Kaigan Comb, William Jordan, John Michael Duplechin, Gabe Fonenot, Jude Hebert and Jedd Lafleur.

       We want to wish good luck to both all star teams in these tournaments.


  • .The Ville Platte T-Ball All Stars narrowly lost to Mamou today in the finals of the Dixie Youth District tournament in Mamou. The final score was 18-17 and finish second in the tournament.The team qualifies to advance to play in the state tournament. Most of the games were broadcast over KVPI. Congratulations to our T Ball all stars for doing a great job throughout the tournament and best of luck in the future tournaments.

         Lots of sports news to share with you. We begin with our Ville Platte girls softball teams. We had four Ville Platte softball teams competing in the USSSA state softball tournament in Slidell this past weekend. The Ville Platte 10U select team coached by Todd Ardoin came out First place in that age group by beating Madisonville twice: 12-0 and then 7-0. Madisonville came out in second place while the Ville Platte 10U Rec all stars, coached by Nick LeBas came out in third place. Both teams will advance to play in the USSSA Nationals “World Series” in Gulf Shores, Alabama July 18-23. Also the Ville Platte 8U all star girls under head coach Tommy Fontenot beat Scott 10-9, defeated Metairie 11-1 , lost to Mandeville 13-7 and finally beat the Ville Platte Red Hots team 14-6. The Ville Platte 8U team came out third in their age group and has also qualified along with the Red Hots to compete in the Nationals in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

        In boy’s baseball action, the Ville Platte Pitching Machine 8 year old all stars with Coach Lance Chapman competed in a District tournament in Leesville this weekend. The all stars beat Vinton 6-2 and beat Mamou 16-0. We do not have any other scores and don’t have information on how they placed in the tournament.

       Also, the Ville Platte T-Ball all stars with Coach Justin Johnson competed in a district tournament in Mamou. The team won all of their pool play games including :beating Deridder 24-11, over Vinton 21-0, beating Vernon Southern 22-17. In bracket play, the all stars Sunday lost to Oakdale 19-9 and beat Oberlin 18-15 in an exciting come from behind victory. KVPI Sports carried many of their games over the weekend. The team next plays Monday at 5;00pm against the winner of Mamou and Oakdale to be broadcast over KVPI 1050 AM.


  • This weekend, the Ville Platte T-Ball all stars are competing in a Dixie Youth District tournament in Mamou. KVPI Sports will begin following the team in games beginning Saturday after through through Monday with Sports Announcer Micah Chatman.

    Also, the Ville Platte 8 year old Pitching Machine all stars will begin competing Saturday in Leesville. We would like to ask a member of he Pitching Machine team to message us and keep us informed on your scores all weekend. Good luck to our all stars.

     

     

    We have three girls softball all star teams competing in the state USSSA state softball tournament in Slidell this weekend. We want to wish good luck to the Ville Platte 10U Select team, the Ville Platte 10U Recreational team and the Ville Platte Red Hots all star team.          It will be another busy weekend for KVPI Sports. We plan to cover the Ville Platte Super Tens All Stars as they host a round robin Sub District tournament Thursday through Sunday at the Ville Platte Recreational Complex. Here is the broadcast schedule: Thursday 7:30pm-Ville Platte vs. Vernon National; Friday at 6:30pm- Ville Platte vs. Mamou; Saturday- 9:00am- Ville Platte vs. Oakdale and again at 7:30pm- Ville Platte vs. Vernon American; Sunday- 6:00pm- Ville Platte vs. Pine Prairie.

       KVPI Sports will plan to carry LSU games in the College World Series from Omaha. First game: LSU vs. Florida State Saturday night at 7:00pm from the LSU Sports Radio Network.

        The Ville Platte 8U Pitching Machine All Stars finished in second place in the sub district tournament played in Oakdale. KVPI Sports began our live coverage in bracket play Saturday morning all the way through Sunday afternoon. Here are the bracket play games: Ville Platte defeated Oakdale National 14-7; Game 2-Oakale American beat Ville Platte 8-5; In game 3- Ville Platte beat Vernon Central 10-0 and in the finals Oakdale American beat Ville Platte 17-3. KVPI Sports Announcer Micah Chatman did the play by play games over KVPI FM 92.5

       The Ville Platte 6U T-Ball All Stars competed in a sub district tournament in Leesville this weekend and came out in Third place. Here are the scores of the games: Thursday- Ville Platte defeated Oberlin 21-4; Friday- Ville Platte beat Vernon National- 17-12; Saturday’s game- Oakdale beat Ville Platte 19-18 and the final game Southern National defeated Ville Platte 18-17.

       Next weekend, the Ville Platte Super Ten’s all stars will host a sub district tournament at the Ville Platte Recreational complex. The Ville Platte 12 year old Dixie Majors have the weekend off and will by pass sub district competition because they will host their own District tournament on June 29.

KVPI Sports plans to carry their bracket games beginning Saturday afternoon at 1:30 or 3:00pm. The games continue through Sunday. The team includes Ellis Chapman, Daniel Guillory, Lane Joubert, Atticus Lafleur, Samuel Lafleur, Aaron Lejeune, Wesley Ortego, Gavin Patin, Lane Perry, John Soileau, Rylan Soileau and Payton Veillon. The team manager is Lance Ciapman and coaches Rob Guillory, Michael Soileau and Jake Veillon. KVPI Sports Announcer Micah Chatman will be calling the games at this tournament.          The 2017 Dixie Youth All Star Teams have been selected according to John Pitre, Director of Ville Platte Dixie Youth. The all star teams will begin playing in post season tournaments in the next few weeks.

         The 2017 Ville Platte Tee Ball All Star team for 6 and under include:

    Alden Cole Benoit, Samuel Edward Blanchard, Jamarion Edwards, Jonathon Freeman, Layne Staley Gremillion, Carson Paul Johnson, James David Lahaye, Leo Zachery Lahaye, Brant Michael LeJeune, Branson Adam Mayeaux, Benjamin Kyle Soileau and Luke Austin Vidrine. The team Manager is Justin Johnson and his Assistant Coaches: Jermain Edwards, Zac Lahaye, and Lucas Vidrine. The team will compete in a sub district tournament June 8-11 in Pine Prairie.

The Manager is Jason Deshotel and the coaches are Jared Paul Fontenot and Stokie Fontenot. The team’s first tournament is a sub district tournament June 15-19 in Ragley.

        The 2017 Ville Platte 12 Year Old All Stars include: Garbiel Aiden Courville, Evan Reese Deshotels, Joseph Bryce Deville, Hayden Anthony Droddy, Ayden Blake Fontenot, Nicholas Luke Fontenot, Adam Blake Hebert, Landon Christopher Leblanc, Richard Colton Manuel, Lawson Wayne May, Isaac Anthony Perry and Wade Aaron Pitre.         The Opelousas Catholic Vikings defeated Episcopal High last week in the state quarterfinals 2 games to one at home and broadcast live on Classic Hits 92.5 KVPI. The top ranked Vikings advance to play in the state baseball tournament at McMurray Park in Sulpher. Opelousas Catholic will take on #4 ranked Riverside Academy in the state semi final game Thursday morning at 10:00am. KVPI Sports plans to carry that game live over KVPI 1050 AM with Sports Announcer Micah Chatman. Should Opelousas Catholic win, they will advance to play in the state championship game Saturday at 5:00pm. Good luck to the Vikings.

  • KVPI Sports plans to cover the Opelousas Catholic High School Vikings as they advance to play in the state quarterfinals this weekend at home. The Vikings will be hosting Episcopal High Friday at 4:00pm, Saturday at 11;00am and if need be a third game at 2;00pm live on KVPI FM 92.5 and on classichits925.com. KVPI Sports Announcer Micah Chatman will be doing play by play.


  •      The Pine Prairie High Lady Panthers will compete against Winfield in the State Softball tournament in Sulpher Friday at 12 noon in the state quarterfinals for Class 3-A. You can hear the game live on KVPI 1050 AM with Sports Announcer Micah Chatman. Should the Lady Panthers they will next play at 2;00pm Saturday in the semi finals and the finals are set for Saturday night at 7;30pm.

         We have two high school boys baseball teams in the state playoffs: Sacred Heart and Mamou.

        The Sacred Heart Trojans will travel to play St. Charles High in a best two out of three tournament to be broadcast live on KVPI FM with Sports Announcer Thomas Scully. Their first game is Friday at 4;30pm. Game Two is Saturday at 11;00am and if need be, a third game is at 2;00pm.

          Also The Mamou High Green Demons will travel to play Many in the Regional round of the playoffs. They will also play in a best two out of three. Their first game is Friday night at 6;00pm. Their second game is Saturday at 10:00am and if need be, a third game will be at 12 noon.

  • High School Sports Update

     

    The High School baseball playoff brackets have been released by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.

    We have three parish baseball teams going into the state playoffs:

    The Sacred Heart High Trojans will enter the playoffs in the Regional round beginning Friday. The team will travel to play St. Charles in LaPlace in a best two out of three. The first game is at 4:30pm. The second game is Saturday at 11:00am and if necessary a third game at 2;00pm.

    The Mamou High Green Demons enter the state playoffs in a Bi District game hosting Oakdale Tuesday in a 2-A matchup.

    The Pine Prairie High Panthers, in another Bi District matchup,  will travel to play North Vermillion Monday at 4;00pm.

    In Softball playoff action, the Pine Prairie High Lady Panthers will enter the State Softball Tournament in Sulpher. In Quarterfinal action, the Lady Panthers will take on Winnfield Friday at 12 noon.

  • KVPI Sports plans to cover more local and area games for sports fans in our area. On Thursday night, the Sacred Heart High Lady Trojans travel to play Opelousas Catholic in the first round of the state softball playoffs. Game time is 4;00pm with pre game at 3:45pm on KVPI FM 92.5 with Sports Announcer Thomas Scully.

     

    On Friday, we plan to cover the Sacred Heart Trojans as they play district rival Notre Dame at 4:30pm live on KVPI 1050 AM with Sports Announcer Thomas Scully. Pre game coverage begins at 4:15pm. The baseball playoff games begin next week.

     

    Also on Friday, the Pine Prairie High Lady Panthers will host Buckeye at 6;00pm live on KVPI FM 92.5 with pre game at 5:45pm with Sports Announcer Micah Chatman

    The Pine Prairie High Lady Panthers will host Northwest Tuesday at 6;00pm live on 92.5 KVPI FM with Sports Announcer Thomas Scully. The Mamou High Lady Demons will hosts Lake Arthur Tuesday at 5:30pm on KVPI 1050 AM and on kvpionline.com with Sports Announcer Micah Chatman.   • High School Softball Playoffs Begin

     

       There are three high school girls softball teams going in to the first round of  the state softball playoffs in Evangeline Parish this week.

       The Pine Prairie High Lady Panthers will be hosting Northwest High Tuesday after noon at 5:30pm.

       The Mamou High Lady Demons will be hosting Lake Arthur Tuesday at 5;30 .

       The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans will be traveling to take on Opelousas Catholic Thursday at 4;00pm.

       Due to the Sacred Heart Lady Trojan game, the Trojan baseball game due to be played Thursday has been rescheduled for Friday at 4;30pm against Notre Dame.

  •       The Ville Platte city league baseball and softball leagues begin play Saturday at the Ville Platte Recreational Complex. Every team with Dixie Youth and Girls Inc. will be competing in the opening day games. The officials, coaches and teams will be recognized during the opening ceremonies at 12:30pm. KVPI-FM 92.5 plans to cover the opening games along with two boys games and two girls games with sports announcer Thomas Scully.

    In Girls Softball action in the opening day games: 9:30am- Butterflies vs. Lovebugs and Crickets vs. Fireflies; 10:30am- Honeybees vs. Ladybugs and the Dragonflies vs. Fireflies; 1:00pm- Fawns vs. Chicks; 2;00pm- Kits vs. Fillies ; 3:0pm- Bunnies vs. Pups; 1:00pm- Sharks vs. Hurricanes; 2:15pm- Thunder vs. Eclipse and 3:30pm- Storm vs. Lightning.

        There is no admission charge. There will be a concession booth with food and drinks for sale. Come out and support our young people on Saturday.


  • Our Sacred Heart baseball game of the week will be Tuesday at 5:30pm as the Trojans travel to play Ouachita Christian at Louisiana College in Pineville with KVPI Sports Announcer Thomas Scully over 92.5 KVPI.
