Ridley Scott and Hugh Jackman are taking on an adaptation of a classic novel.
Scott is set to direct Jackman in a new film adaptation of Treasure Island, ABC Audio has confirmed. Jackman will play the pirate Long John Silver in this new take on the Robert Louis Stevenson novel.
According to Deadline, Adolescence writer Jack Thorne wrote the film's script and will executive produce. Scott will also produce the film alongside Michael Pruss for the production company Scott Free.
There is currently no studio attached to the project, but it is set to hit the market on Monday, the outlet reports.
Treasure Island follows a young boy who discovers a map to a legendary buried treasure. He sets out on a journey across the sea to find the fortune, all the while finding himself in a battle of wits with the pirate Long John Silver.
This upcoming adaptation is described as a new take on Stevenson's classic, which was originally published in 1883.

Production has officially started on the Beach Read film adaptation.
Director Yulin Kuang made the announcement in an Instagram post Monday. The photo features stars Phoebe Dynevor and Patrick Schwarzenegger in costume and on the set of the film.
"a crumb of bts from the BEACH READ camera test for you, dear reader .. can’t wait to show what we’ve been cooking up," Kuang captioned her post.
Kuang also announced the film's release date, which will be May 7, 2027.
"filming has officially commenced," she wrote. "see you only in theaters on May 7, 2027."
Beach Read follows the character January Andrews, a romance novelist who struggles with writer's block due to her grief after the death of her father and her discovery of the secrets he kept.
January spends the summer at her father's Michigan beach house as she prepares to sell it. While there, she reconnects with Gus Everett, a fellow author and her formal college rival. The pair spark an unexpected romance after they agree to partake in a writing challenge to get them out of their respective writing ruts.
Joining Dynevor and Schwarzenegger as part of the film's cast are Andie MacDowell, Kevin Bacon, Kristin Davis and Tig Notaro. Kuang, who co-wrote the Netflix film adaptation of author Emily Henry's novel People We Meet on Vacation, directs Beach Read for 20th Century Studios from her own script.
This is the latest adaptation of one Henry's works, following the release of People We Meet on Vacation in January. Three of her other novels — Book Lovers, Funny Story and Happy Place — are also currently being adapted for the screen.

We now have our first look at the dog who's going to solve that mystery.
Netflix has revealed that for the first time in the history of the franchise, the character of Scooby-Doo is being portrayed by a real dog in its upcoming live-action series Scooby-Doo: Origins. Production on the series is currently in process in Atlanta, Georgia, with its premiere set for 2027.
"SCOOBY IS FINALLY REAL!!! Meet our goodest boy in Scooby-Doo: Origins, coming to Netflix in 2027," the streaming service posted to Instagram on Monday.
Scooby-Doo: Origins' previously announced main cast includes Mckenna Grace as Daphne Blake, Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones. Additionally, Paul Walter Hauser has been cast as a series regular, although the specific role he will play has not been unveiled.
Scooby-Doo: Origins "will uncover how this mystery-solving crew, and their beloved dog, first teamed up to crack the haunting case that started it all," according to the streamer.
Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg will serve as the show's writers, executive producers and showrunners. According to Netflix, the show will be a modern reimagining of the Scooby-Doo gang's origin story.
"During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder," according to the show's official synopsis. "Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets."

It seems folks were clamoring for the return of Scary Movie.
The sixth installment in the horror movie parody franchise, and the first since 2013’s Scary Movie 5, earned $55 million at the box office this weekend to debut at #1, according to Box Office Mojo.
Variety reports that Scary Movie’s haul was actually a record opening for the franchise, surpassing 2006’s Scary Movie 4, which brought in $49.7 million in its debut weekend.
Another new film, Masters of the Universe, debuted at #2, bringing in $29.3 million, while last week’s #1, Backrooms, dropped to #3 with $25.9 million.
Rounding out the top five were Obsession, with $25.6 million, and another new film, The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act, with $11.6 million.

Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr. are reuniting for a brand-new comedy series.
The New Girl co-stars are set to lead a currently untitled comedy pilot for Hulu, ABC Audio has confirmed. The pilot will be inspired by the Jim Carrey movie The Cable Guy. Both Johnson and Wayans will star in and executive produce the project, which is produced by Sony Pictures Television.
"In a world of endless streaming, binging, and algorithms, old-school cable technician Chip Douglas (Johnson) languishes alone — until Steven Stephens (Wayans Jr.) calls to have his cable turned back on, reconnecting Chip with a childhood friend he never forgot," according to the project's logline. "The relationship gives each man something he’s been missing…until Chip’s enthusiasm turns into obsession. Inspired by the movie, the show explores the darkly absurd side of modern-day male friendship."
The pilot episode is written by It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia's Rob Rosell, as well as Cobra Kai's Joe Piarulli and Luan Thomas.
ABC Audio understands that the series won't be a remake of the original film and instead will be inspired by it. Its creators are big fans of the movie and want to honor the film instead of remaking it, akin to what the Fargo TV series did.

Anthony Head, the British actor known for his roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Ted Lasso, has died, the Associated Press reported Friday. He was 72.
His daughters, Emily Head and Daisy Head, told the Press Association news agency that their father died due to complications from pneumonia.
“Our grief is far greater than the hole he has left behind, but we know his legacy will live on, in the shows he was a part of, and in the audiences that love them,” Emily Head and Daisy Head said in a statement. “How lucky we are to know we are able to watch him doing what he loved, even when he is no longer with us.”
Anthony Head was born in London on Feb. 20, 1954. He was predeceased by his longtime partner, animal welfare activist Sarah Fisher, in 2025.
The actor is known for his role as librarian Rupert Giles, who mentored Sarah Michelle Gellar's titular character in the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The series ran from 1997 to 2003.
He is also known for playing Rupert Mannion, the ex-husband of Hannah Waddingham's Rebecca, in the Apple TV comedy series Ted Lasso.

There’s another Power series in the works, with Joseph Sikora and Michael Rainey Jr. set to lead the cast. The two actors will reprise their roles as Tommy Egan and Tariq St. Patrick in Power: Legacy.
Power: Legacy picks up after the events of the Power Book IV:Force season finale, when Tariq arrives in Chicago to help save Tommy and asks him to return to New York to assist with his own business ventures. Although Tommy is initially reluctant to leave behind the empire he built in the Windy City, he ultimately decides to do so. According to the official logline, “Power: Legacy follows Tommy's return to New York, where he teams up with Tariq as the two aim to take the city by storm.”
“Power never dies, and this chapter is our biggest yet,” said 50 Cent, who serves as an executive producer. “Fans have been waiting to see Tariq and Tommy together, and now they’re taking over New York City. Bringing Joseph and Michael back together is special; they’ve turned these characters into true icons of the Power universe.”
Michael and Joseph were first introduced in the original Power before going on to headline their respective spinoffs, Power Book II: Ghost and Power Book IV: Force.
Other spinoffs in the franchise include Power Book III: Raising Kanan, which premieres its fifth and final season on June 12. Power: Origins, another upcoming series, will continue the story of the franchise's early years and is currently filming in New York City.

Actor James Handy, known for roles in films including Top Gun: Maverick, The Rocketeer and Jumanji, has been identified as the victim of a fatal stabbing in Los Angeles on Wednesday, police said.
The Los Angeles Police Department said officers responded Wednesday to a report of "unknown trouble" in the Tarzana neighborhood of the city and found Handy in the front yard of a residence suffering from a stab wound to the chest.
He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Los Angeles Police Department on Thursday identified the victim as the 81-year-old actor.
According to the LAPD, the suspect called emergency services and said, "I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin."
Investigators allege that 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, the son of Handy's girlfriend, stabbed the actor, though authorities have not revealed any motive behind the alleged stabbing.
Police said Gledhill flagged down responding officers and told them he was the person they were looking for.
Gledhill, who lived with his mother and Handy, was arrested and booked on suspicion of murder. Bail was set at $2 million.
The LAPD said the stabbing was an isolated incident and that there is no further danger to the public.
According to IMDb, Handy appeared in numerous film and television productions during his career, including roles in Top Gun: Maverick, The Rocketeer and Jumanji.
The investigation into Handy’s death is currently ongoing.

Max Cady is back, and this time he's played by Javier Bardem.
Apple TV's limited series adaptation of Cape Fear has just debuted its first two episodes. This reimagining of the classic 1962 film and Martin Scorsese's 1991 remake finds Bardem taking on the role of the former prisoner set on revenge. He told ABC Audio he felt pressure stepping into both Robert De Niro and Robert Mitchum's shoes.
"Of course, the pressure is about me being a huge admirer of De Niro's and Mitchum's iconic performances," Bardem said. "But also, the pressure was off when I first read the scripts and I felt that there was a different take, different character to play because it's a different time in history."
Bardem said he didn't have to emulate anything specifically from De Niro or Mitchum's takes on the role, outside of the "sense of humor" and "the irony of those performances," although those aspects "were present [in] the writing."
This take on Cape Fear gender swaps Max Cady's lawyer into a woman — a new, reimagined character named Anna Bowden. Amy Adams portrays Anna, and she spoke about what this change brings to the story.
"I really love that aspect of it, this dynamic between them and the sort of power play. ... There's a depth and sort of a complexity to the relationship that we got to explore," Adams said.
Going further, Adams said the story has more nuances when Max Cady's lawyer is a mother, with audiences "understanding the risk and the protective nature that she would have."
"Women's relationship with shame is also something that I was interested in exploring through this. And pressuring yourself and being unforgiving to yourself," Adams said. "It gave me a lot to play with."
Christopher Nolan fans scrambled to get tickets to his upcoming film The Odyssey on Thursday. In the new John Carney movie Power Ballad, Nick Jonas plays a former boy band member who steals a song from Rick — a wedding singer played by Paul Rudd — and uses it to establish his solo career. Nick said he really wanted work with Carney and Rudd, but took on the role of Danny in the film because he could relate to it on several levels.
"I've lived a lot of these experiences," he told ABC Audio. "And not just the career stuff and the fame aspect of Danny's life, but the songwriting and the journey to find yourself, push the envelope, do something different, the pressure that you can feel."
That pressure is what leads Danny to claim Rick's song as his own. Rick then crashes out, and begins regretting putting his own music career on hold to have a family. Nick says the movie asks the question, "How far would you go to get everything you ever wanted, and at what cost?"
Carney told ABC Audio that he chose Nick because it was important to him to cast an actual musician in the role of Danny.
"He just has stood on so many stages in the world. He walks onto a stage and he just is natural, he knows how it works," Carney said. He added that an actor "can't carry that off as well as a real singer who's been onstage since he was like 6."
As for Rudd, he shows off some very impressive singing and guitar skills in the film. But he didn't look at it as a way to surprise people with his hidden talents.
"I'm always just like, 'Oh God, I hope I don't fall on my face,'" he said. "But I feel that with just about every job I do. ... It's more of just, 'I hope it's believable.'"

Sadie Sink has found her next TV project.
The Stranger Things actress is set to star in and executive produce The Marriage Plot for FX. It will be a limited series based on Jeffrey Eugenides’ 2011 novel of the same name.
The Marriage Plot tells the story of three recent college graduates who are "caught in an all-consuming love triangle as they reconcile their youthful romantic aspirations with looming adulthood and make life-altering choices about love and identity," according to an official description from FX.
Succession's Will Arbery is writing the project while Widow's Bay director Hiro Murai is helming. The series will stream on Hulu.
“The Marriage Plot is a perfect fit for FX: ambitious, character-driven storytelling that offers another great opportunity to partner with exceptional artists,” Gina Balian, the president of FX Entertainment, said. “We look forward to building on our partnerships with Will and Hiro, both of whom are extraordinary talents who we are proud to work with again.”
This marks Arbery's second FX series order in less than a year. His original show Seven Sisters was picked up by the network in December.
Next up for Sink is an appearance in this summer's Spider-Man: Brand New Day. She is also set to executive produce the film adaptation of the play John Proctor Is The Villain for Universal Pictures.

Ice Age: Boiling Point is preparing to heat up movie theaters.
Disney and 20th Century Studios have released the official teaser trailer for the sixth theatrical film in the Ice Age franchise. The upcoming animated movie marks the next chapter in the iconic herd’s prehistoric misadventures.
Manny, Diego, Sid, Scrat and his beloved acorn are back in the minute-long teaser, which finds the gang getting shot out of a volcano.
They're taken "straight into a dinosaur-and-lava-filled madcap adventure to visit never-before-seen corners of the treacherous Lost World," according to an official description from Disney.
The original voice cast of Ray Romano, Denis Leary and John Leguizamo return to their roles of Manny the woolly mammoth, Diego the saber-toothed tiger and Sid the sloth. Also returning are Simon Pegg as Buck and Queen Latifah as Ellie. The characters of Crash, Eddie and Baby Scrat also appear in the teaser.
The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild's John Donkin directs Ice Age: Boiling Point while Lori Forte produces.
Blue Sky Studios produced the franchise's first five films. This marks the first theatrical Ice Age movie since Blue Sky Studios was dissolved by The Walt Disney Company in 2021 after it was acquired in 2019.
The original movie premiered in theaters in 2002, while the franchise's most recent installment, Ice Age: Collision Course, debuted to theaters in 2016.
Ice Age: Boiling Point arrives in theaters on Feb. 5, 2027.

A24 has released a brand-new trailer for its upcoming romantic comedy film from director Olivia Wilde.
The Invite is Wilde's third directorial effort after her films Booksmart and Don't Worry Darling. It is based on director Cesc Gay’s Spanish-language film Sentimental. Will McCormack and Rashida Jones wrote its screenplay.
In addition to directing, Wilde stars alongside Seth Rogen, Edward Norton and Penélope Cruz.
The movie follows married couple Joe (Rogen) and Angela (Wilde), who invite their upstairs neighbors Hawk (Norton) and Pina (Cruz) over for dinner, "where everything that could go wrong goes wrong," according to an official description from the studio.
"Joe and Angela’s marriage is on thin ice. When they invite their enigmatic upstairs neighbors for a dinner party, the night spirals into unexpected places. Have they reignited the spark or lit the match that burns it all down?" the film's official synopsis reads.
The trailer finds Joe and Angela preparing to host Hawk and Pina for dinner before the other couple arrives.
"What is this?" Joe asks Angela, who says, "That's a rug."
"Did you buy this rug because the neighbors are coming over?" he asks, causing her to say, "Oh my God."
When Pina and Hawk finally arrive, Joe apologizes for having a bit of a contentious environment.
"We love a contentious environment," Hawk says in response.
The Invite arrives in select theaters on June 26 and everywhere on July 10.

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos executive produce a new six-part docuseries called Squatters: Get the F*** Out of My House.
The docuseries, which follows ordinary people blindsided by manipulators who know exactly how to weaponize tenant protections, is now available to watch on Hulu. Ripa and Consuelos spoke to ABC Audio about the unbelievable true stories included in the series.
"The title didn't come out of nowhere. This is what these very frustrated homeowners keep saying because they are so desperate," Ripa said.
Consuelos said that the squatters featured in the show "are so good at finding the loopholes in the law ... to frustrate the owners of the homes."
"We've sold homes," Consuelos said. "You just assume you're selling your home, and you go check on it, and you're not gonna find a family that has moved into your house."
Not only that, but you don't assume you'll find multiple families there and discover that "they're leasing the house from a man who claims that's his house," Consuelos continued.
While the married couple have never encountered squatters on any of their properties, Ripa says she has a friend who dealt with squatters.
"He owns properties in California and he said that this is his life," Ripa said. "There's so many times that he has leased a property to a tenant who's never paid rent and then he cannot evict them and so it is a part of his life."
Through those experiences, Ripa said her friend has "had to become better than the squatters."
"It is very common. I keep saying we could do episodes not just in each state, we could episodes in every county of every state or in every borough," Ripa said. "It's not a unique thing."

Mason Thames has joined the John Wick universe.
The actor is set to star in the upcoming Lionsgate film Caine, ABC Audio has confirmed. Caine will be a John Wick spinoff directed by and starring actor and martial artist Donnie Yen as the titular fan-favorite character from John Wick: Chapter 4.
As previously announced, Rina Sawayama has also been cast in Caine. She will reprise her role as Akira. Also part of the cast is Stranger Things actor Dacre Montgomery.
Thames' role is currently being kept under wraps, as is the film's logline. According to Lionsgate, it will continue Yen's story arc through the events of John Wick: Chapter 4, "as Caine has been freed from his obligations to The High Table."
The film is currently in production, with John Wick star Keanu Reeves producing.
The Batman Part II writer Mattson Tomlin, who also wrote the adaptation of the Reeves-created comic book BRZRKR, wrote the screenplay with Michael McGrale.
Lionsgate says Caine will be "shaped by Yen’s signature approach to action filmmaking, blending precision choreography with emotional storytelling."
Thames recently finished production on the live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon 2. He will appear in the upcoming Green Day inspired film Nimrods as well as the Dave Franco and O’Shea Jackson Jr. starring film Idiots.
