KVPI Baseball and Softball Updates

Here is the latest update on High School Baseball and Softball: KVPI Sports is making arrangements to broadcast both local softball teams going to the state softball tournament in Sulpher this weekend. The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans will face Ouachita Christian in a semi final game Friday at 11:00am and should they win, they advance to play in the championship game Saturday at 1:30pm. Also, the Mamou High Lady Demons will play Caldwell Parish Friday at 1;30pm in a semi final game. Should they win, they will play Saturday at 1:30pm, In High School Baseball action, we have three high school baseball teams advance to play in the state playoffs: Sacred Heart will host St. Edmunds in a best two out of three Friday at 5:30pm, Saturday at 1:00pm and if need be at 4;00pm Saturday. We are making plans to carry these games. Also, in Bi District action, Pine Prairie travels to play North Vermillion Monday at 4;00pm and Mamou High will travel to play Iowa Tuesday at 6:00pm. We want to wish good luck to all our local and area teams.

LSU-EUNICE SWEEPS DOUBLE HEADER

LSU Eunice Baseball Update

Back on Tuesday night the LSU Eunice Bengals travelled to Carthage, TX and swept a double headetr from Panola College by scores of 6-2 (7 inn) and 18-9 (9 inn).  Those were the final two regular season games to be broadcast on KVPI for the season.  Our Bengal baseball coverage will resume at the NJCAA Region 23 tournament coming up later this month in Mississippi.

 

Here is the summary of game two in which Derek Herrington was on fire for the Bengals.

 

Derek Herrington leads LSU Eunice to 18-9 win over Panola

An exceptional effort by Derek Herrington lifted LSU Eunice to an 18-9 win over Panola on Tuesday at Carthage, TX.

 

Derek got a hit in each of his six at bats. He doubled in the first inning, tripled in the second inning, and singled in the fourth, sixth, seventh, and ninth innings.

Each team blasted the other's pitching, and there were 27 total runs and 38 hits during the game. Relief pitchers got their fill of innings during the game, with the opposing managers using 11 pitchers in total.

 

LSU Eunice blew out Panola thanks to 24 hits, including eight extra base hits. LSU Eunice scored six runs in the sixth on LSU Eunice scored in the sixth on a walk by Tyler Chapman, a two-run single by Derek, a two-run double by Brennan Bozeman, and an RBI double by Steffan Trosclair.

 

Hayden Barnett got the win for LSU Eunice. He allowed one run over 3 2/3 innings. Hayden Barnett struck out three, walked two and gave up three hits.

LSU Eunice easily handled Panola pitching as seven hitters combined for 23 hits, 17 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

 

Brody Colle ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He lasted just two innings, walked one, struck out none, and allowed one run.

The top of the first saw LSU Eunice take an early lead, 1-0. LSU Eunice caught fire after Derek doubled. Then Jordan Romero singled, scoring Steffan.

 

Panola answered LSU Eunice's top inning with two runs of its own in the first. Panola scored on a solo home run by Matt Spruill and an RBI double by Clint Cage.

The lead stayed with LSU Eunice after the fifth, when it scored one run on.

LSU Eunice pushed across two runs in both the seventh inning and the eighth. In the seventh, LSU Eunice scored on a two-run double by Ray Veit, bringing home Sam Walley and David Lafleur.

Mamou High Lady Demons Lose to Fisher 2-0

Amber Manuel goes 6 but the Lady Demons lose to Fisher 2-0

The Lady Demons' Amber Manuel struck out nine batters, but providing enough offense to notch a victory proved difficult Saturday, as the Lady Demons fell to Fisher 2-0 at Lafitte.

Kassilynn Rojas got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. She tossed seven innings of shutout ball. Kassilynn struck out one, walked none and gave up three hits.

Amber ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss.

The game was never in doubt after the third, as Fisher scored two runs on a two-run double by Kassilynn.
